44% of adults get their news from Facebook. This is frightening.
Facebook’s algorithm is designed to serve you content that you and your bubble already “Like” which results in the proliferation of fake or factually incorrect news stories. What Facebook is serving you then creates or exaggerates a skewed worldview (PS they also profit off all of this).
What role does Technology play?
Facebook has the trust of the public. They have a monopoly over people’s attention. They have become a propaganda medium.
As citizens of the world it is our job to make sure that this doesn’t continue to happen. We are calling out Facebook for their business model and what they will continue to do in the name of profit.
